Electronic Arts closed out this year's EA Play event with a shock announcement no one quite saw coming, the long-awaited sequel Skate 4. No, this isn't just a meme, this is real life. Sometimes we can have nice things. More than a decade after Skate 3 came to Xbox and PlayStation 3, a new installment in the franchise is finally in development. They didn't show any footage, a trailer, or even a logo. Instead, in a classic "one more thing" moment that captured the magic of E3 from the Before Times, the franchise's creative director Cuz Perry appeared at the tail end of the presentation to say the magic words fans of the skateboarding game have longed to hear for more than a decade: "We're back! Will Skate 4 come to PC?
In what was easily the most surprising reveal from EA Play Live, the publisher announced a new Skate game is in development. Yes, your tweets actually seemed to have convinced EA to greenlight the game. However, the game is still in early stages of development. Expect to wait at least a few years before we can play the game.
Skate 4, or at least a brand new Skate, was officially announced at this year's E3 esque EA Play event. Series' creative director Cuz Parry and game direct Deran Chung confirmed the cult skateboarding game's return - although not much info was given. The idea of a sequel has been a popular fan request for years and as Parry stated in the livestream reveal "you commented this into existence. We're Back! So, while we wait, let's take a look at what's happened, and what's been said, to get to this point - where Skate 4 is an actual thing that's going to happen. Skate 4 could be EA's next live-service success story.
Folks, Skate is back. Did we get a trailer for Skate 4? Did we get gameplay footage? Did we even see a single screenshot of what the expect Skate 4 to look like? EA simply said the name Skate, said it was being worked on and it was in the early stages. That's it. Skate is Back! Is that enough? Personally, as a huge fan of the series, I'm excited just to know the game is being worked on. Can't wait to see more.
